The Jencik household in Penfield, N.Y. has 14 children. Eleven have disabilities ranging from high-functioning autism, Down syndrome, to rare genetic disorders like Cornelia de Lange and Prader-Willi syndrome; ten are adopted. Brittany, the mother of the family, cares for every child round the clock with the support of her husband Barry. As a family, they adopt children who have run out of options or have a low chance of placement.

Wyatt (1) was born with Cornelia de Lange syndrome, a very rare genetic disorder causing a range of symptoms from developmental delays, microcephaly, hearing impairments, to a variety of vision abnormalities and heart defects. Caulder has overcome spastic quadriplegia CP, a debilitating form of cerebral palsy causing loss of use of the whole body. He is legally blind and has lung, behavioral and emotional issues. Sam (4) is fed a colored syrup via a syringe after his G-tube unplugged and was replaced. After replacement, colored liquid is ingested to confirm that the G-tube is properly connected. If a G-tube remains unplugged, the port can close within 30 minutes; the procedure to reopen the port requires a series of gauges and is extremely painful. Nov. 18, 2017
