Trash is collected to be burned in New Karachi Town. Much of the trash is consumer plastic waste, along with some industrial rubber, and is used to heat the kilns that dry the clay pots and tiles. The smoke that arises from the burning trash is incredibly thick and toxic. Those working here daily do so without even basic protective face masks. Many of the clay products made in this part of New Karachi Town are exported and sold in Saudi Arabia for a higher price.
